Setting up a Rural Developmet and Self-Employment Institute (UBI-RUDSETI) at Rajpur, 24-Parganas (South) District
United Bank of India has set up a Rural Developmet and Self-Employment Institute (UBI-RUDSETI) at Rajpur, 24-Parganas (South) District where it is the Lead Bank. The Institute was inaugurated by Dr. Asim Dasgupta, Finance Minister, Government of West Bengal on 14th August, 2007 in presence of Shri P.K. Gupta, Chairman & Managing Director and Ms Sunanda Lahiri, Executive Director of the Bank. Shri P. Mohanaiah, Chief General Manager NABARD was also present.
Shri Manabendra Mukherjee, Minister-in-Charge, Micro & SSE & Textiles & Tourism, and Ms. Rekha Goswami, Minister-in-Charge, Self Help Group and Self Employment Deptt. Govt. of West Bengal were the Guests of Honour.
Eminent persons like Sri Kamal Ganguly, Chairman, Rajpur Municipality were present. The function was also attended by respected Tushar Maharaj, Ram Krishna Mission.
The Institute is located in Bank’s own premises and has provision for conducting residential course for 36 persons at a time. The Bank has deputed one full time Director to look after the day-to-day affairs of the Institution with two additional officers also on deputation from the Bank or conducting the training programmes. This will be the 1st RUDSETI established in West Bengal having linkage with NABARD and which will provide free residential courses upto 30 day’s duration to 36 boys and girls at a time.
In his inaugural address Dr. Asim Dasgupta, Finance Minister, Govt. of West Bengal said:
This Institute has a direct relationship with economic development of the State. He urged upon the Bank for establishing such institutes to increase job potential. 70% of agricultural lands in West Bengal under irrigation. This is above the national average. Rising agricultural production is also above the national average. Endeavor are being made to bring variety in agriculture, growth of Cash Crops along with social forestry, pisciculture, animal husbandry.
In his welcome address Shri P.K. Gupta, Chairman & Managing Director, UBI highlighted the prime objectives of UBI RUDSETI which are:
· Provide free training to the unemployed youth both men and women in entrepreneurship development and capacity building;
· Provide training to the farmers in agriculture and allied activities;
· Provide escort services to the trained youth to set up their venture successfully;
· Provide counseling and consultancy guidance and to render all possible help to the unemployed youth;
· Promote networking between the existing and potential micro entrepreneurs;
· Expand quality credit through financing trained and motivated unemployed youths for setting up different viable ventures under both Farm and non-Farm sectors either directly or through different Govt. sponsored programmes like PMRY, SGSY, SJSRY, BSKP, SCP, SESRU, REGP(KVIC) etc.

Congratulated UBI for setting up of RUDSETI. He said that growth of 9% GDP is possible if the efforts are backed by adequate setting up of training institute.
Smt. Rekha Goswami, Minister-in-Charge, Self Help Group and Self Employment Deptt., in her speech congratulated UBI for setting up of RUDSETI. She urged upon UBI to establish such Institutes in all districts. She pointed out that West Bengal has vast potential to produce Mushrooms for which readymade market within the state and outside is available. Agro-based products need to be given support by Banks – she suggested.
Shri P. Mohanaiah, CGM, NABARD in his speech said supported UBI for setting up RUDSETI.
