| Shri P.K. Gupta, a dynamic
leader with vision and mission, was born in Bareilly, U. P. on 10th September, 1948. He is
a first class M.Com, LLB rank holder of Agra University. He is a Certified Associate of
Indian Institute of Bankers. He also holds a Diploma in International Banking and Finance
from the same Institution. Shri Gupta started his banking career with Punjab National Bank
as a Probationary Officer in March, 1971. He worked with the said Bank for over 30 years
in different capacities, such as Branch Manager, Regional Manager, Zonal Manager, and
General Manager. As Zonal Manager, he handled three important Zones of PNB, viz. Eastern
Zone (Kolkata), Southern Zone (Chennai) and East U.P. Zone (Lucknow). As General Manager
at PNB's Head Office, he inter alia, handled Credit, Credit Policy, Planning and
Development, Marketing, Domestic and International Treasuries and Merchant Banking etc. He
was the first Managing Director of PNB's leasing and merchant banking subsidiary- PNB
Capital Services Ltd. He was also associated as Project Director with the ambitious
organizational restructuring project of PNB handled by the international consultants-
Boston Consulting Group. Shri Gupta moved to Corporation Bank in February, 2001 on his
promotion as Executive Director. Thereafter, he moved to National Housing Bank in
December, 2004 on his elevation to the post of Chairman and Managing Director which post
he held upto April 18th, 2006. Government of India gave him additional charge of Punjab
& Sind Bank during January- March, 2005. Since 1st May, 2005, he is with United Bank
of India as its Chairman and Managing Director. He is a member of the IBA Managing
Committee (elected at the AGM of the Association held on 26.5.2006).
He has attended various programmes at national and international level. He was on
training with Midland Bank, London for two months. He also attended training programmes
with Fairplace Summer School, Cambridge, Asian Institute of Management, Manila and Fannie
Mae Washington.
He has attended SIBOS 2005 Conference held at Copenhagen the Second Global Conference
on Housing Finance in Emerging Markets, organized by the World Bank Group in Washington,
DC, U.S.A during, March 15th-17th, 2006. He has also attended the Tata AIG Life - Sydney
2006 Convention held during April 7th-11th, 2006. |
